Amel Super Maramu 2000

Amel Super Maramu 2000
Adding: Blue Sea AC Multimeter 8247

This will allow me to measure the load (in amps) on the Onan Generator, as well as see how much volt I get from the dock (and generator) and double checking the frequency 50 or 60 hertz in case I want to use my dishwasher, washer, (220 Volt) water make, Microwave and Scuba Compressor.

What you will need:

  • Blue Sea AC Multimeter 8247
  • Two 0.5 Amp Fast Fuse 250 Volt and two fuse holders with appropriate ratting.
  • 16 gages wire (preferably blue and brown)
  • 2 heat shrink 16 gage connectors
  • Smaller (20 or 22 gage?) wire to twist
  • "domino" or other electric device to connect the twisted pair to its extension
  • 2” tool to make a hole
  • Electric wire cutter
  • heat gun
  • plastic bag (for the dust)
  • blue tape (for the dust)
  • acuum (for the dust)
  • vscrew divers, etc.
Before I started this project I did not know there was a difference between fuses (aside the amp rating). This was a learning experience.

I first learn about Fast Blowing, slow blowing fuses, etc.
F: Fast Blowing
T: time delay or slow blow
TT: very slow blow
M: Medium blowing capacity
FF Very Fast
S Slow
No marking can be Fast or Slow

There is also the voltage:
A: Automotive (only good for 32 Volt)
G: Glass Automotive (only good for 32 Volt)
AG: Automotive (only good for 32 Volt)
SFE: also automotive 32 volt
311: up to 32 volt
AGC: good to 250 Volt
Ceramic fuse don’t assume it is a slow blow
Wire don’t assume it is Fast Fuse

Ceramic: full of sand, more durable for vibration, etc.

Example: T3.15AH250V
T for Time Delay or Slow Blow
H for High Breaking Capacity (usually for airplanes, etc. with vibration)
other option are M: for Medium Breaking Capacity or L for Low Breaking Capacity

So I found: 5 x 20 mm 0.5 Amp Fast Fuse 250 Volt and two fuse holders in 16 gages.

Before connecting the wires, as described in the Blue Sea installation: switch off all the 220 volt breakers, then switch off the marina fuse and disconnected the shore cable, and switch off the Inverter.

You will need to twist the pair

 Amel Super Maramu 2000 Bimini

Twiste the wire, then I added a "domino" (electric connector)

 Amel Super Maramu 2000 Bimini

Then I put rescue tape and secure it with zip tie

Plastic bag with blue tape to avoid the dust to go every where

Marked the location I want to drill

 Amel Super Maramu 2000 Bimini

I used 3 ft long 16 gages (blue and brown) wire with heat shrink connection
 Amel Super Maramu 2000 Bimini

Now connected to the fuse (in my case the shore power was already off... so could not heat the heatshrink connectors)

Before opening the panel, switch off all the 220 volt breakers
Then switch off the marina fuse and disconnected the shore cable
Then switch off the Inverter.

Coming from the bottom of the pictures in "BIG" red and black Arrows are the cable coming from the Shore
Then go to a wire holder with screw. Then go to the top of 220 Volt Breaker.
Then leave out of that breaker then back up to 2 other wire holder before to be distributed

Brown Arrow will go to Slot 1 of the Blue Sea AC Multimeter
Blue Arrow will go to Slot 3 of the Blue Sea AC Multimeter
White Arrow is the wattmeter sensor
Black Arrow (twisted pair) will go to Slot 4 and 5 of the Blue Sea AC Multimeter

Make the wires go through the backing of the of the Blue Sea AC Multimeter

Then through the holw

Connect
Brown wire to Slot 1 of the Blue Sea AC Multimeter
Brown Arrow will go to Slot 3 of the Blue Sea AC Multimeter
Twisted pair to Slot 4 and 5 of the Blue Sea AC Multimeter
Note: I was lucky (50% chance) as when I connected twisted pair the amp meter worked right away
The instructions says that if it does not work, you need to reverse the twisted pair (4 to 5 and to 4)

Put in place and screw the holding place behind
 Amel Super Maramu 2000 Bimini

Put back the 220 Volt panel cover

Then I switch on the shore power and saw 214 Volt

Press the right button and now showing the Frequency in Hertz

Press the right button and now showing the Watts
 Amel Super Maramu 2000 Bimini

Then I switch the "outlet" breakers on then one of my battery charger and it show the Watts

Then the Amps

To heat shrink the wire, I protected with a pan

Now shrink

Then in good Amel tradition, I put 2 spare 0.5 Amp Fast Fuse 250 Voltin a little bag with zip tie
