Amel Super Maramu 2000
Bilge additional strainers Worst than changing the joker valve or the macerator seal on the toilet is the cleaning of the bilge. It takes me an entire day... First Remove the lower hoses of both the manual and electric bilge pump as well as the float system to have full access to the bilge, Second: comes the disgusting and long task of cleaning the bilge and the float from that amalgam (from you and your guests) of soap, toothpaste, hairs, food residue, etc. Third: reinstall everything.
Consequently, I am testing ways to improve in this area.
I decided to either add or replace the shower strainer with a thinner mesh. Then I decided to add one more even thinner mesh right at the bilge. Note: should the valves of water tight door not be operational, knowing which hose comes from where in the bilge could be very useful as you could easily close them with wood plugs. |
Forward Head additional strainer
Original strainer in the forward head - placed horizontally
I will be using a similar plastic material
to compensate for the smaller holes I will use a larger surface about 1' x 1' or 30 cm x 30 cm
I will be using fishing lines to manually saw the new strainer in a pocket
Side by side
For the forward head I actually have the new strainer on top of the original one
water flow seems fine
Aft Head additional strainer
Original strainer in the forward head - placed vertically
Side by side, but for this one I decided to only use the new strainer - will keep the original one
water flow seems fine
Now I want to find which hose brings the grey water to the bilge
Forward head
Out of the 3 hoses coming to the forward / starboard side of the bilge, it comes to the most forward
Aft Head
Aft head come from the hose under the engine (coming aft of the bilge)
Gallek Sink
Comes from the top of the 3 hoses in the forward / starboard side of the bilge.
Making the screen or strainer for grey water in the bilge
This time I am using mosquito net similar to the one use on hatches screen
to compensate to the even smaller holes/screen, I am going to use a much large surface 2' x 1' or 60 cm by 30 cm.
I will also use fishing line to make a pocket
Using a clamp I am able to easily secure it to the aft cabin grey water hose.
Unfortunately the bilge space doesn't allow me to use something as large for the forward cabin and galley
So I will use 14" x 14" or 35 cm x 35 cm
Note: the end of the pocket (left of the picture) has the fishing line - this will be use to attach it to a lanyard
For these forward cabin and galley, I did not find any better solution than sticking them in the hoses.
since the flow is potentially pushing the strainers away (into the bilge) I attached them to a lanyard
Here is the lanyard
